Wednesday was hot, high 80's Turkey Day was cold Friday I put up 50 xmas lights around front door Today it is near freezing, raining with possible snow in the hill country west of here. We missed a season, no fall except for falling leaves. Now it is winter cold, wet, dark.
I've been able to paint, bundled up in cold studio, for the last three days. DS came over tonight and honestly told me my painting was boring and he is correct. Good to have a second set of eyes. I have tomorrow to push it forward. We'll see. Cracking almonds and crackling fire tonight. Put out cat carrier and sheet for outdoor cat ojn side porch. Two outdoor potted plants ok for now, no freeze called for in the next couple days. No swimming, school pool closed. Barton no sun, wind and air too cold. Monday will swim at sschool no matter the air temp. Two last weeks of class left, then a lot more time. I've been painting and driving and looking and relaxing. Drove to Dallas with paintings on Thursday in a black new Grand Prix courtesy of the local car rental office that had to give me an upgrade since they didn't have the economy model I had reserved. Two hundred miles plus later I got to Conduit soon after noon. Unloaded paintings, talked with Nancy and Danette and viewed the four shows there. Lance and I are up next. Sushi lunch courtesy of Nancy. Off to Gerald Peter's Galleries to view Bale Creek Allen's. Good stuff and good sales. Then off to the Fast Forward exhibit at the DMOA. Amazing contemporary collections coming that museum's way. I'll be back to Dallas in a dozen days for my opening there. Then off to the hotel, it's pool and bar for the night. Next day off early to Fort Worth and got there a bit before the 10AM entranced opening at the Frt. Worth Modern. Two great shows there. Pretty Baby which included a room sized installation by Margaret Meehan that looked great among the other rather creepy images of youngsters. Then there were the strange drawing in the Focus section of Ralf Ziervogel which carried the warning sign The works in this exhibition contain violent and sexually explicit imagery. Viewer discretion is advised.. One section of the Pretty baby show had the same warning. Kimball unfortunately didn't open on Fridays so missed my chance this trip to view some of my favorite early paintings. Got back to Austin by 3 and very glad not to do any more driving. Film's watched since, Friday was Sur mes lèvres (Read My Lips) which I highly recommend. Then last night watched a very cheesy horror film: The Nail Gun Massacre that was on the staff recommended shelf at Vulcan but doesn't get my recommendation. Sunday now, tired of WFMU marathon, glad it is the last day. Need to get to paintings as I won't be able to get to my studio for a week after today. School stuff and then off to Kansas City and the SGC conference. Tags: art, dallas, driving, film, museums, painting Current Mood: good enuf Current Music: WFMU - an archived program of Irwin's

This is me
This is you
We're all here 'cause
We're not all there.
and so on and on
***Tumblin’ Dice***
Women think I’m tasty, but they’re always tryin’ to waste me And make me burn the candle right down, But baby, baby, I don’t need no jewels in my crown.
’cause all you women is low down gamblers, Cheatin’ like I don’t know how, But baby, baby, there’s fever in the funk house now. This low down bitchin’ got my poor feet a itchin’, You know you know the duece is still wild.
Baby, I can’t stay, you got to roll me And call me the tumblin’ dice.
Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry, Don’t you see the time flashin’ by. Honey, got no money, I’m all sixes and sevens and nines. Say now, baby, I’m the rank outsider, You can be my partner in crime.
But baby, I can’t stay, You got to roll me and call me the tumblin’, Roll me and call me the tumblin’ dice.
Oh, my, my, my, I’m the lone crap shooter, Playin’ the field ev’ry night.
Baby, can’t stay, You got to roll me and call me the tumblin’ dice, (call me the tumblin’) Got to roll me, got to roll me, got to roll me (oh yeah) Got to roll me. got to roll me, got to roll me ( keep on rolling, keep on rolling) |
