It was cold yesterday and beginning to rain after i had dug a two foot deep exploratory hole in the front yard. You see there's often a layer of limestone just below the surface in this part of the city and Central Texas in general. Looks like I will be able to put in a new oak there. Like I said, cold and wet. No swimming, no walking, so I looked up the movies showing at the theatre in Westgate. Mel Gibson aside, I decided to go and watch Apocalypto. Reviews had been surprisingly good. I would have to admit it is fascinating action cinema telling the myth of cultural disintegration. Not to everyones taste I am sure. It was pouring when I got out of the theatre and so I headed to HPBG for a couple of scotches to warm up the insides. Home to a fire in the fireplace, big bowl of chicken, vegetable and multi bean soup. Set down to watch The Ninth Configuration but fell asleep sometime in the middle. Damn, it is due back today. I'm going to have to keep it to watch it again tonight. A most interesting flick from the reviews and the first part I watched about an deviant soldiers philosophical discussions in an insane asylum. Will bring back the other three and rent another for Christmas evening. Christmas eve, quiet, cold rain still. New paintings still not dry enough for further work. Sat down and started a water color. Glen Jones is playing free form xmas music like the "Back Door Santa" comes more than one time a year. Looks like it is going to be sunny tomorrow for Christmas. I will go to Barton for a bracing swim. Tags: cold, movie, rain Current Mood: good enough Current Music: WFMU - The Glen Jones Radio Programme featuring X-Ray Burns

UT was in the news surprisingly in the NYTimes and all over but it was a case of austin terror not. No terror, no ricin, no port authority. Does any else think we are beset by false paranoia and have ignored the real world going to hell? OK, back to hum drum. Dan drove us to Senior show, which looked great behind the large crowd and then to the robot love party where I was Mexico Mechanico and drank far too much green robot power whatever it was. Fog in mind this morning but still stuck it out in studio and worked on one of the small square canvases. Watched The Dark Command on satellite tonight. Early John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Claire Trevor and Gabby Hayes acting in story of surrounding Lawrence Kansas during uprising during the civil war. So, tomorrow looks busy, but the weather says swim something missing this weekend Tags: art, movie, part studio, tomorrow, ut Current Mood: yes or mayb Current Music: WFMU - Stochastic Hit Parade with Bethany Ryker

Ice and freeze over night. Glad I was in and missed all the excitement of road accidents. Some early bird plants died. Painted on two small square canvases this morning in chilly studio. Different tact with desert landscape chroma. Watched Broken Flowers last night but fell asleep half way through. Man does Bill Murray ever look depressed in this flick. Strange for a comedy. Vanity Fair : A Novel without a Hero is showing itself to be a not bad at all read. Guess I have a soft spot for 19th century art and literature. Making a big batch of chicken, vegetable, rice, bean soup and will try and find the place were I dozed off on the dvd and watch the second half again. Full week ahead with classes, gum doctor visit, lecture, opening and big meeting on Friday. Peace out.... Yesterday was a full day at school. Deletion and counter etch demo in the morning Litho and different kinds of modeling form using our cracked up l'Écorché (Flayed Man). Wednesday we will have our first nude model, for them their very first. I'm going to need to arrive at school a bit earlier 6:45AM to make sure the room is arranged as there is going to be a long printmaking meeting that will probably last the full two hours of lunch. Went swimming at the Aquatic center yesterday after missing swimming over the weekend because of way cold weather and wind. Last night Goldfinger was on satellite. Long time since I last watched it. Forgot about Pussy Galore and Odd Job. Light entertainment. Painted again this morning, needed to brighten it up as it somehow had drifted to a cold, dimness. Anyway, looks different now, maybe better, more paint on it for sure. I'm trying to forget it is Valentines day, no sweetie here for me. Planning going to Barton later to celebrate "Love Our Springs" with Save Our Springs Alliance. Celebrate life at Barton Springs on Valentine's Day from 4-8pm. Play music, sing, dance, paint, dive, swim! Free! It's a bit warmer today, air a degree warmer than the springs water. Time for brunch and grocery shopping now. Watched most of Kubrik's 2001 last night but fell asleep before the end. No matter, own it on tape. I want to watch it again, there's a lot there. Had my painting sweater on this morning, cold out. Hard freeze forecast for late night, down into the 20s. So much for early leaves thinking it was spring already. Need to let painting rest/dry. Will get to the two small canvases tomorrow. No swim today. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to campus. Answered one of the many things I get from people wanting to buy or do something with my property in Hesperia CA. Realtor evaluated the lot and gave me a selling price higher than what I payed for my house in Austin. Tempting, but I'm not going to sell. If I ever do I will give this guy the listing out of curtesy. Glad I listened to my accountant. And now I know that when I get offers a fraction of what it probably is worth I can throw them in the recycle bin. Lots of social things to do today and will need to bundle up. Small gathering at Bogdan's to celebrate everything back together after studio was flooded two years ago at 4:00 Bday potluck for Chris, Rachel K's significant other at 6:00 Opening at Art Palace for Nina Rizzo and Stephanie Wagner. at 8:00 Then if I survive will try and swing up to for opening of exhibit that crystalstarr is in at Flightpath Coffeehouse. ***Tumblin’ Dice***
Women think I’m tasty, but they’re always tryin’ to waste me And make me burn the candle right down, But baby, baby, I don’t need no jewels in my crown.
’cause all you women is low down gamblers, Cheatin’ like I don’t know how, But baby, baby, there’s fever in the funk house now. This low down bitchin’ got my poor feet a itchin’, You know you know the duece is still wild.
Baby, I can’t stay, you got to roll me And call me the tumblin’ dice.
Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry, Don’t you see the time flashin’ by. Honey, got no money, I’m all sixes and sevens and nin | | |
