After talking to two of my many favorite grad painters I went to a long meeting where I had to sit at the head of the table and which I did not enjoy and has caused me trepidation and anguish. After that I did get a Hoover's lunch, saw the noisy land arts exhibit at the crl and picked out some films at video store central. Then there was these two torturous, monotone, read lectures that will remain forever nameless. I came home and watched a film that was forgettable and I can't remember it at all, I forget. Thankfully. So back to school this Friday and set up a projector, made coffee and extra sheets for other forgetful ones in advance of the printmaking grad screening. All print faculty attended and we got our prioritized list of acceptable printmakers worked out. Lunch with Ken and then paper work, orders (someone quit making more work to figure out what was purchased and what wasn't), writing a job advert trial description and other things like xeroxing stuff to hand out next week. Sun was out, went swimming after two days thinking I was getting sick or just allergic (neither). My damn microwave is on the fritz, it only works now when my house is 65ºF or colder. Came home and was able to radiate lasagna, make a salad and sit down and watch. Picnic at Hanging Rock directed by Peter Weir. Beautiful, victorian, Pre-Raphaelite girls, mystery. Up to school this morning after a breakfast taco at TacoXpress. Met with foundation faculty and our TAs (BG, CF, VY, JJ). First MRC in 2D and then SW and KH in Drawing. Some busy work, then a swim and home to make a big batch of chicken vegetable noodle soup. Planted some verigated tulips around the silver maple tree and read some on the front porch until dark. Tonights film was the Italian I pugni in tasca, Fists in the Pocket. Paranoid epileptic decides he should kill off the rest of the family. Grey clouds, storm coming, maybe freezing rain Monday morning. Four mornings of studio time before classes begin with just one meeting and an opening to attend. been so busy but need to post. After running around xeroxing stuff for future meeting and getting down to equipment budgets our cordless mouse alerted me to it's nearly drained battery. Who would know, but why didn't we. Rushed around to get a non cordless keyboard and mouse and USB cables to connect my now corded mouse and keyboard with minutes to spare/ Then met with Kate H. for lunch about her teaching foundation drawing. Mostly we talked about drawing, painting and being swedish. She has a house in Austin and an apartment in NYC. She us a friend of Kathy and who used to run the Video Data Bank. I like her, every time I see her she tells me she likes my paintings. The met with Alec, new metals grad student about his ideas of industry vs. nature. Agreed to do an independent studies with him next year. Also doing one with painting grads Ali and Cecilia. Then met with Peter M. at the Harry Ransom Research Center. Jeri C. had donated eleven of my early sculpture and drawings to it and they had been processed and put into storage. I got to go to the basement and check out their condition and packing. It was like the scene in Matrix where Nero got to pick out weapons. Sliding shelf rows open to thousands of feet of stored stuff measured by the foot. (6.67 linear feet of manuscripts from Evelyn Waugh for example). Good to visit with that older stuff of mine. Good swim on the way walking back to the other end of campus. Big surprise at Central Market south. Food, wine and cheese tasking. I don't have to eat dinner. At least 8 wines, 8 entries, and 8 cheeses, plus sweets and yums. Plus it was 20% off on cases of wine, the last chance at that. A busy next couple of days and weeks continue. I'd sure like to do a moon dance. Maybe tonight without a partner. The moon, half full has been bright and clear the last couple of days shining between the branches of my trees as I sit out before turning in for the night. Long week it seems. Some crazy stuff causing more meetings besides the ones I had already. Class time has been an island of comfort at times. Same with swimming which seems to keep me semi sane. Hosted reading group here Wednesday night, preparing for that caused more busy-ness, but it was good to have the peeps here and we had an enjoyable evening. Next book is Freakanomics. Started a lithograph for a trade portfolio due for a conference this coming spring in Kansas. President of U was inducted and gave his state of the U address which I attend. I moved a desk table I just got into my sun room for a drawing spot and moved White Girl (assemblage) into what some might call the dining area of my living room. Table didn't fit there and the sculpture does, sort off. Back to studio today. Scraped dried paint off the palette after four days away and mixed new. Painting improved with todays work on it. Will have Sunday and Monday for more time with it. Friday meetings for the next forever it seems. But with new desk, will have a place out of studio for short bursts of drawing. Got my first pay check that included raise and it was about what I was hoping it would add up to. And then I paid bills and it all disappeared. I guess that's it for catsup. I've been reading your journals though daily at school. Tags: drawing, litho, meetings, reading group, school, studio, table Current Mood: drained Current Music: WFMU - Fool's Paradise with Rex

I had to look back and see what I told you in my last post. Ah, Friday was show and tell of print makers, but with two no shows. Then busy work. Up very early, for me these days, and off to Dallas with Dan and Michael at 8AM. First to Ft Worth. Looked at favorites at Kimball, then walked across the street. Payed to not be able to see new show that was scheduled to be opened in the afternoon. Settled for over appreciated Scully's and their wonderful collection. Then to Conduit to a say hello, up to view Mike's silly thing at D&B, wonderful Spanish paintings at the museum at SMU, not good things on Dragron. It was Dallas Art Walk night, but not worth the sweat generated. Chris's new paintings looked great at Conduit. Saw and talked to more people at the opening than usual. Dinner with Nancy and the artists then Dan drove us home. Asleep at 4AM, awake six hours later, alert, NYTimes Sunday then studio. Painting: did no harm, think some good. I'm glad I have another day off tomorrow to work in studio. Long ass meeting that did not please yesterday morning, then quick lunch, handout for monday xeroxed, then a better gathering voting on undergrad scholarships. Stopped for a Guinness at Dog and Duck and sat outside to draw. Then down south toward home. Stopped for some things, got in the truck and dead, doesn't turn over. Christ! Call AAA for a tow. Took them an hour to get there. Couldn't get it jump started so towed to the New Lug Nutz auto repair shop that took over from Taylor's. Driver nice enough to let me drop stuff out of the car at my house on the way. Got to the shop after hours, I had called ahead and gave them info. As I was going to put my key in the mail slot saw owner Jeff. He came out and took the key and I walked home, it's a couple blocks away. I've been painting all morning waiting for a call from them. Finally called and said it was a dead battery, not an alternator problem that has been a plague with this truck. Anyway, they are getting another and should be ready to pickup at 2, soon. No time to swim, rain today. Maybe tomorrow. Barton is closed for spring cleaning until the 11th of March when it will cost again. But then next week on the 1st, the outdoor lap pool at school will be open 7AM until 10PM weekdays and from 11AM to 8PM weekends. Senior student show opening tonight and then a Fear of Female Robot party. I have fashioned an aluminum helmet of sorts.
