Daylight saving sunday
Finally spring break!

Saturday I cleaned house, did laundry, deep watered front trees and sat on the front deck and finished The Bookseller of Kabul. Weather was clear and hot, 80ºF. No new video rentals so last night I watched Catwoman on satellite. Yes to cats and women.

Up early to a dark cloudy morning made even darker by DST. Back to working in studio. Small container of Galkyd Light had curdled. Cleaned that up laid out new paint on my circular palette and got back to two paintings. Yes to home computer and streaming music. Pledged another donation to WFMU. You can too.

Going out to swim. Hope the lightning forecast won't be booming. On the way back will stop for two more dvds and some grocery shopping.

Last night after attending two beautiful art openings (loved Schade's small gouaches and a bunch of Katy's large paintings) and a grilled tuna sandwich at a far too crowded HPB&G, I watched Ugetsu monogatari a Japanese ghost story set in the 16th century during a civil war. Wonderful, beautiful film.

Up early even though I had a difficult time getting to sleep. Cold today a contrast to 80ºF weather yesterday After an expresso and some green tea, out to the front yard to finish digging the hole, planting and mulching another southern oak. Rapid growing, evergreen, resistant to oak wilt, able to withstand Austin weather and can grow to 50 feet. My studio is going to be hot in the summer until this one is well established. But plant today, in ten years I'll have plenty of shade. By that time I will have removed the last of four trashy hack berry trees from my property. Now if my neighbors could do the same.

Time to clean the house before a consultation over lunch at CM Cafe.

Cirst Saturday
Last night film was David Lynch's Wild at Heart. I'd seen it before. Not sure I why I didn't enjoy it the second time are. Lynch makes beautiful shots, Nicolas Cage is as usual interesting and Laura Dern was most peculiar. A trip through Texas.

If it wasn't for bare trees I would think this was summer. Near 80 at the Springs today.

Something to cheer the soul is a clean house after fully wet moping.

Painting is somewhere. Think tomorrow I will let it rest and start a new one. We will see.

dust
End of the year. A great start, went to shit, came up in Italy and then down the chute and finally evening out short of.

Things I did today:

After the regular shot of expresso read the Times with green tea then worked on painting to no avail, but think I now know what it needs ( I miss typed means?).

Went to A for to purchase EndDust then brunch.

Springs were crowded, looked like a normal week day during the summer, but got in for a daily swim. Mid 80s tomorrow so you know I will be there no matter that it will be unguarded.

Discovered circus comes from the word for rings.

CM, bought sushi for tonight with salad things.

I've finished John Adams so read about the Times's problems in the latest New Yorker

Uprooted furniture in bedroom and did a full rid of a years of accumulated dust in hard to reach places.

Talked to neighbor about his loud barking dog that is wearing thin on me. He's working on some kind of anti bark collar.

Tonight the last episodes of Carnivale. May be in bed before the new begins.

We will see about on or off in the morning.

No resolutions.

Hope your 06 works out well for you.

weekend
Kind of down, not in italy maybe the cause.

Too much red wine at bday forTD.

Painting did not look so hot this morning but still needs to dry more before moving on to something, what.

Hadn't done a big cleaning since before going over seas. That was getting to me. Big sweep, wet mop and all, much better.

Heater, well I should get a new one but 16K is more than I want to part with. Need to get trees trimmed, house painted, other various things.

Sent check for EDL fund, former dealer that helped me a lot in my early days in LA at Space gallery. E has medical problems and most likely has no insurance.

Tomorrow is a new day.

Summer is half over
Midsummer EveSo the roofer never showed up Friday night or yesterday . He's busy I know, but I wish he wouldn't say he'd be over in a couple of hours and then not show. I'm sure he is scurrying to finished some half done roofs racing the rain we've had and expect.

So lot's of rain and thunder kept me away from swimming. Cooler weather is nice. Kept doors and windows wide open. Never even hit 90º. More time in the studio with cooler days. Painting is doing something or other with me. It's a contest lately.

After studio today got laundry done, house swept and vacuumed. Now to to food shop and then back to mow the laundry that took off with all the moisture.

Tonight is something at Flatbed and then birthday party for MS along with movie night at Slugfest with meat grilling.

I've put off slide scanning this week and will get to that next week.

School stuff all done except for Thursday night visit of ZB for drawing critique.

Reading Lie Down in Darkness. Interesting and depressing story.

Oh that painting above is Midsummer Eve by Edward Robert Hughes. I remember seeing it at the Frick. Unfortunately somehow I have misplaced the great catalog of the Victorian Painting show it was in.

***Tumblin’ Dice***

Women think I’m tasty, but they’re always tryin’ to waste me
And make me burn the candle right down,
But baby, baby, I don’t need no jewels in my crown.

’cause all you women is low down gamblers,
Cheatin’ like I don’t know how,
But baby, baby, there’s fever in the funk house now.
This low down bitchin’ got my poor feet a itchin’,
You know you know the duece is still wild.

Baby, I can’t stay, you got to roll me
And call me the tumblin’ dice.

Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry,
Don’t you see the time flashin’ by.
Honey, got no money,
I’m all sixes and sevens and nines.
Say now, baby, I’m the rank outsider,
You can be my partner in crime.

But baby, I can’t stay,
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin’,
Roll me and call me the tumblin’ dice.

Oh, my, my, my, I’m the lone crap shooter,
Playin’ the field ev’ry night.

Baby, can’t stay,
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin’ dice, (call me the tumblin’)
Got to roll me, got to roll me, got to roll me (oh yeah)
Got to roll me. got to roll me, got to roll me ( keep on rolling, keep on rolling)
