Road Work on Shoal Creek Blvd??
Does anyone know about the road closure on Shoal Creek Blvd just south of the Shoal Creek Blvd and Allendale/2222 intersection? I went to pick up the boyfriend after work yesterday and the guys were pulling out the "Road Closed" barriers and directing traffic through the neighborhood. Then they put us out on 2222 and we couldn't turn left. :(

I checked the city's site
http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/ca/default.cfm

But nothing's listed.

I'd like to know how long they'll have the road closed so I can steel up and drive down Burnet (sob) instead until they fix it.

Kids' game adds 500-1000 words to its forbidden list every day
The kid-centric online game Club Penguin (acquired by Disney last year) adds 500-1000 words a day to its list of forbidden chat-words in an effort to keep things clean. Wanna bet that kids come up with 2000-4000 new variant spellings a day?
Merrifield also thinks that there is an over-reliance on technology that ignores the human element, which is why they've decided to devote two-thirds of the company's staff to positions such as safety moderators and customer service.

"We know the limits of technology, even though I would put our filtering software up against anybody's, especially because of that human element - we're adding 500 to 1000 words every day to the filters, simply because of slang that works its way into the language.

"And every new pop song that comes out is inevitably going to reference something that was innocent the week before, but isn't so much now," Merrifield said.

Batman in Vietnamese

Ethan Persoff of Comics With Problems says,

This fantastic new item comes to us from Saigon, 1966. A truly one-of-a-kind sort of surviving Batman and Boy Wonder knockoff bootleg. For you psychologists in the crowd, Robin becomes invisible and there's a submarine.

iPhone shortage hits NYC

Filed under:

While the UK has been reporting a run on current-model iPhones recently, Gizmodo says that the shortage has reached across the pond to New York City. According to an anonymous staffer at the West 14th street Apple Store, "it's been out of stock all week." And to think, you were only worried about rice and flour.

If you check out the picture on Gizmodo, you'll see a line of about 30 people who are waiting for an iPhone at the West 14th street store. These people will probably be very upset in a month or two.
